Notifications for Subscribe to Blog Lost Formatting
-
When visitors to my website submit a “Subscribe to Blog” WPForm, I have set up a response notification email. Within the past week, it has lost its formatting of hard returns. Now it puts in one single line the salutation, body, and signature lines. It didn’t used to do this. Any suggestions?

Hi @myfamilypattern,
Thanks for reaching out!
When you have a chance, please share your form with me. To do this, go to WPForms > Tools and click on the Export tab. In the Form Export section, select the form you’d like to export, and it will download a JSON file for you. Here’s a screenshot of the setting.
In case it’s helpful, we also have a tutorial for this here. (it includes screenshots, which I always find helpful).
Then, share the JSON file with me. You can share a link to the file using a cloud service like Google Drive or WeTransfer.
This way, I can try to reproduce the issue and provide further assistance.
Thanks!
Thanks so much! I’m sending it to you now. I truly appreciate your assistance.
Hi @myfamilypattern,
I just wanted to point out that there was no link to your form in your last message.
When you have a chance, please share a link to download the JSON file. That will allow me to try to reproduce the issue and provide further assistance.
Thanks!
Hi Ralden,
My apologies. I sent it via email but now I realize it wasn’t directed to you.
Thank you so much for helping. I greatly appreciate it. I just can’t figure out why the email notification to the Subscribe to Blog stopped formatting the line breaks. I wondered if it was a WPForms update?

Hi @myfamilypattern,
Thanks for sharing your form!
However, I was unable to reproduce the issue when I used it on my site. For your reference, I recorded a screencast showing my tests.
To resolve the issue, I recommend the following:
1) Configure an SMTP plugin on your site. We have an article with a list of recommended SMTP options and links to their setup tutorials.
2) If the issue persists, it may be related to your email client. You could create a free Gmail account and perform the same tests that I did in the screencast. If you cannot reproduce the issue, I recommend contacting your email client and reporting the problem.
I hope this helps 🙂
Hi @myfamilypattern,
We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so I’m going to go ahead and close this thread for now. But if you’d like us to assist further, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.
Thanks!
My apologies. I missed the message. It looks very different on my side. The formatting is lost, see below:
Dear Linda, Thank you for subscribing to my MyFamilyPattern blog. So I may better understand my promotional efforts, do you mind telling me on which platform or by which means you discovered my blog? Thanks, Rick — Rick T. Wilson, Ph.D. Genealogist, Patternologist, and Founder of My Family Pattern LLC
Hi @myfamilypattern,
Thanks for sharing an example of the issue.
Since I cannot reproduce it, I recommend the following:
1) Configure an SMTP plugin on your site. We have an article with a list of recommended SMTP options and links to their setup tutorials.
2) If the issue persists, it may be related to your email client. You could create a free Gmail account and perform the same tests that I did in this screencast. If you cannot reproduce the issue, I recommend contacting your email client and reporting the problem.
3) If the issue occurs in a free Gmail account as well, it may be due to a conflict with another plugin or code in your theme. In this case, could you please try using the steps in WPBeginner’s detailed guide on troubleshooting WordPress to see if it helps resolve the issue?
Please let me know if the issue was resolved after trying the above options.
Thanks!
I’m currently traveling but I will try next week. I tested it using other email accounts, and the issue persists. I agree that there was some plugin update that caused the change.
Hi @myfamilypattern,
Thanks for letting me know.
I look forward to hearing about your tests, and I hope you find the source of the problem.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
I am still not able to resolve the issue, and I don’t know where to go from here. I am willing to pay for assistance in resolving the issue. Please advise how to proceed. Thanks!
Hi @myfamilypattern,
When you have a chance, please let me know how you see the issue. Are you using an email service like Gmail? Or an email client, such as Outlook or Apple Mail?
Thanks, and please let me know.
Hi Ralden,
Thanks for the reply.
Word press sends the mail using my gmail account. I can send you examples of the email, but I don’t know how to insert it here as a pdf. Can I forward the email to you or is there a way to embed it here?
Hi @myfamilypattern,
I apologize for any confusion caused by my previous question. I need to know where you opened the email with the formatting issue.
Are you experiencing email formatting issues when opening the email in your Gmail account? Or, do you use an email client, such as Outlook or Apple Mail, to open the emails?
Looking at the form you shared with me, I see that you’re using a custom Email Message. We had a similar case that occurred when opening the email in Outlook. However, we could not reproduce the issue on our test sites.
To try to solve the issue, I modified the Email Message by removing the blank lines that were added with the Return key and using the HTML tag instead. Here’s a screenshot of the result: https://a.supportally.com/i/psbxvj
The adjusted form is available here: https://a.supportally.com/f/Kf7mAa. Please download the ZIP file, unzip it, and use the JSON file to import the form in WPForms > Tools > Import. In case it helps, here’s our guide on how to import a form.
Please let me know how you’re opening your emails and whether the modified form solved the issue. Thanks!
Thanks, Ralden. I will try to import the new form and let you know how it goes.
I normally open the email in Gmail. However, through testing, I have additionally opened it using several email clients including AOL Mail, Gmail, and Microsoft Outlook. It all appears the same. It appears the same whether opened on my Mac or my iphone. I don’t have access to a PC to determine if it’s an operating system issue.
I have a block of time later today that I can try importing the file. I want to make sure I have uninterrupted time.
Thanks!
