Menu item sizing
-
Hi, can you help me figure out why the icons on my menu will not appear in the correct size? I even put the sizes in the image html code but it’s not working. The images appear much smaller and widely spaced than I have in the settings. Thanks
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi there,
Unfortunately I don’t know what the correct size is supposed to be so it’s quite hard for me to advise.
Please can you let me know what it is supposed to look like so I can advise. From what I can see the icons aren’t spaced at all so I don’t see any wide spacing.
Also, these aren’t the icons from my plugin so again it’s quite hard to know what you are looking to do here.
Please advise
Peter
Thanks for your quick reply. Sorry about the missing info you need.
The icon images are my own and the image html code is placed in the menu title box of the widget.
My icons should be 48 px square (round by appearance, about the same size as the header height which is 50px) with 1-2 pixel space between each icon. In all of my browsers, they are appearing much smaller with a large space between them vertically. They were displaying correctly then one morning I came on and found this size issue.
You say you don’t see any wide space between the icons. Are they displaying correctly for you? I’d have to wonder why suddenly they don’t here.
Also, below the menu, there are numerous jumbled texts displaying on the menu below the actual icons and links, like the menu is posted in full and all space below that is filled with the jumbled text instead of being a blank menu background color. What causes this?
Any ideas what might cause this? Thanks for any insights you may have.
Hey there,
Yep they look fine for me. Have you cleared your browser caches?
In regards the text, those are your menu descriptions but you can turn these off from my plugins admin settings.
Hope that helps
Peter
Yeh, I clear the browser numerous times a day but that’s not the issue.
Ok, I turned off the menu item descriptions. I only had it on because I thought it meant my alt image tags description, which of course, are not displaying either on hover.
Well, after turning off descriptions, the text is gone now and the icons are appearing the correct size, actually cut off a lit bit on the bottom. I may need to set the item spacing a tad more, not sure. Looks like the bottom 5 px is cut off of each icon. At least they’re coming up right now 😀
Whacha think?
Ok, it’s all good now. I got her fixed up. Thanks for your attention and assistance. You are appreciated big time 😀 Have a good one!
Hey there,
Great news that you got it working and thanks for letting me know.
Have a great weekend
Peter
Hey Peter, it appears that the plugin is placing a folder inside my Uploads folder which is the media files are kept. Is this supposed to happen? I did notice that if I delete the folder, the menu disappears so it apparently needs it. Seems like an odd location for the files tho. Shouldn’t this folder be written into the plugin folders? Thanks
Hey there,
Not according to this reviewer:
As I said at the time, you can’t keep everyone happy 😉
To be fair, I’m not sure why you would be deleting your whole uploads folder, is there any reason for doing that?
All the best
Peter
Hey, thanks for reaching out again. I’m not deleting the Uploads folder. I deleted the Responsive-Menu folder that was located there since I thought it didn’t belong, got there by accident somehow. When I deleted the folder, the menu disappeared. So I put it back from my backup so it would work 😀 That’s all.
So the answer is, yes, it belongs there? Fine with me. I was just curious or wondering if I’d accidentally dragged it there 😀
Hey there,
I’m still not convinced it belongs there but I see the reviewers point about it not belonging in the plugins folder which really only leaves the uploads folder.
Its all a bit of a muchness really as I’ve only had one complaint about it being in the plugins folder in 1.5m downloads so I’m none the wiser.
In any case, it’s currently in the correct place and you can leave it there 🙂
Hope that helps clear it up a bit.
Peter
Cool. I figured it was the plugin setting to create separate stylesheets so that’s what it was doing and using the Uploads folder. Don’t matter to me, just wanted to be sure. Thanks for your time and input.. sure you got better to do so you’re off the hook here 😀 Take it easy.
Hey there,
Yeah, the plugin will only create those files if you have the External Files option turned on, otherwise it will auto generate them on each page load (which is not ideal).
Thanks again and enjoy the plugin! 🙂
