menu doesn't load – columns not defined in load-scripts.php

Hello,
I have a WordPress multisite installation where the admin menu isn’t showing under appearance > menus since updating to 4.4.2

The error that I get in the console is:

Uncaught ReferenceError: columns is not defined
load-scripts.php:82

It is working on one of the other sites in the same multisite install though.

I created a new test site in multi site and the menu works there. I activated all of the plugins and it still worked. I deactivated all the plugins on the other site one by one and couldn’t find anything. I tested the test site using the same theme as is on the broken sites and it didn’t break.

I couldn’t find any more debug errors related to this problem. I tried replacing the load-scripts.php file.

Any tips on how I can resolve this issue?

Are you using the Types plugin. That seems to be causing the problem for my site.

I’d recommend disabling all plugins to rule out any plugin related issues using directions below, either link gives good directions to follow.

Yes, I am using Types plugin. Do they have an update that will fix the issue?

If it’s a plugin related error, disable that plugin via directions above and at least your website will be up until you can contact the author for plugin related help.

Have you tried reverting to the TwentySixteen theme to rule out any theme related issues?

Sorry, I most of missed where you said you tried plugins.

This has been resolved now. I left it alone for awhile, and I think there were some new plugin updates that the web host did (It’s on managed hosting).

I had the same problem and my WP version is 4.6.1 and I do not have Types plugin installed. Seems that other plugin was the culprit, The Events Calendar…

I had this issue as well and it was caused by The Events Calendar plugin. When I disabled the plugin the menu editor loaded normally.

As of this writing, the version of the plugin causing the issue was: Version 3.9.1 and it was on WordPress version 4.7.3
