The dev team has confirmed that this is still an issue, and still on their books. However, as several other more critical issues and new features have higher priority, they still do not have an ETA for this fix.

Just a quick update because it seems like we haven’t reached back to you.
Our developers have reviewed this request and while they believe it is interesting they weren’t able to confirm yet if they will pursue it or share any ETA.
Please keep an eye on the MailPoet changelog just in case.
I am marking the thread as closed now because we won’t expect to update it again in the near future.

Why wouldn’t your developers consider the proposed change appropriate and necessary?
80% of all other (similar or related) plugins already incorporate the feature.
Hopefully, they’ll see the importance (and helpfulness) of the proposed change and make it happen.
