• Hi, I logged in to my site yesterday and found that the Pages that I have worked on in the last couple of months are all gone. In fact, the latest Published date on any of my files is 2023/09/15. It seems like there was a roll-back to that day. Which I haven’t done, for sure!

I’m on WP 6.1.3, and using Elementor Pro 3.14, WPForms Lite 1.8.2.2.

Any thought on how can I start trouble shooting the problem?

    Thank you,

    Tamas

  • Hey, Tamas, I’d recommend using phpMyAdmin to examine the database tables to see if indeed your site’s pages are gone.

Try searching for wp_posts in your database to confirm that the pages are actually gone.

Contact your host’s support to ask if they have done anything about this.

    They told me this:

“After review, we found no evidence that the issue presented is caused by anything on the server. The issue at hand appears to be a content-related error pertaining to your content and code. As your hosting provider, diagnosing content and/or code-related issues fall outside our scope of support – as we’re server provider and not developers.”

Do you use a backup plugin? UpdraftPlus, WPBackup or similar? If so, do you see anything related to this in their interface?

If not, I’m at a loss too. WordPress itself doesn’t just reset something like that. If applicable. You should do a security scan with Wordfence: https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence/

No, I do not have a backup plugin. Will install one for sure now, but that’s the kind of “learning it the hard way” 🙁

Ian, do you think is there a way to check if there was some php “activities” in the last couple of weeks? Is there any logging? I’m not an expert in this unfortunately…

Thank you for the TIP, I installed word fence, run a scan, but only found issues related to outdated themes and plug-ins. No malware or similar …

I’m not Ian, but: unless you have a security plugin that records such activities, they cannot be traced.

Apologies, I though I can tell who you are based on your avatar…
