I’m curious about the “login with email” option and it’s implications. I understand that when registering with WordPress using a user name, that user name can not be changed. The user is stuck with it forever (unless I manually alter the database I guess). If I configure Profile Builder to allow login with email, does that simply mean the user is prompted for an email address but that email address is actually placed in the user name field within the WordPress database and as a result, that email can never be changed? Also, how does WordPress use that login field? If I have logged in using my email address, and I comment on a blog post, will WordPress use my email address as my name? If not, then what gets used as my name? Won’t this confuse other plugins that need my user name?

My whole issue with WordPress registering people by user name is that user names are not globally unique whereas email addresses are. We can be born with a name is not unique but we’re guaranteed to have an email address that is unique.

    Hello,

when login with email is done, PB generates a unique username, so that, when added to the DB, the username and emails are still separate and in the proper place (column).

Not sure what happens, though, in the case you mentioned with the forum. I would assume that the automatically generated username will be displayed instead, but WP has many filters in place which you can use to customize this.

    Regards,
