I need technical assistance regarding a restore issue with my All-in-One WP Migration backups.

I have several .wpress backups that were originally created while my website was hosted on Namecheap App Hosting.
Since migrating to a new server, none of these backups can be restored successfully. What happens:

    • Import stops at 89% or fails immediately
    • Sometimes it gets stuck on “mu-plugins activated
    • When I manually extract the .wpress file, it contains unwanted Namecheap system files such as:
      • mu-plugins/
      • object-cache.php
      • .litespeed_conf.dat
      • Namecheap maintenance pages
      • Custom caching files
    • After removing these files manually and repacking the folder into a new .wpress file, the plugin still refuses to import it.

    What I tried:

    1. Extracted .wpress with Traktor and manually cleaned Namecheap-specific files.
    2. Repacked the folder into .wpress format (ZIP → .wpress).
    3. Installed a fresh WordPress with only AIO Migration plugin.
    4. Increased PHP limits:
      • memory_limit 1024M
      • upload_max_filesize 1G
      • post_max_size 1G
      • max_execution_time 600
    5. Tried both browser import and placing file into /wp-content/ai1wm-backups/.
    6. Tested on multiple servers.

    Result:

Even after cleaning and repacking the backup manually, the plugin does not recognize or import the new .wpress file.My question:

Is there a correct and officially-supported method to:

    • Rebuild a valid .wpress file manually?
    • Or repair/remove corrupted Namecheap-specific files inside an existing backup?
    • Or is there a tool that you recommend to reconstruct a clean .wpress file that the plugin will accept?

I can provide sample .wpress files or logs if needed.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Kind regards,

    Hello,

I hope you are well. I will answer your questions below:
    1. Rebuild a valid .wpress file manually?
    – You can extract files out of the wpress backup. It is not possible to create a new .wpress file

    2. repair/remove corrupted Namecheap-specific files inside an existing backup
    – This is also not possible.

    3. Or is there a tool that you recommend to reconstruct a clean .wpress file that the plugin will accept?
    – This is also not possible

Do not share .wpress files with anyone.

Here is what you need to do:
    1. Import the wpress file.
    2. Wait 5 minutes once the import process looks stuck
    3. Login to. your server by FTP and manually delete the files from wp-content/mu-plugins
    4. Access wp-admin, login and save permilinks twice. Your site will be transferred and ready to use.

Why is this going to work? The plugin activates the plugins, mu-plugins, and theme as the very last step. This means that all your data has already been transferred. Once you delete the mu-plugin via FTP, the site should resume working.
