    Hello,

I have a problem with the IPTC/EXIF mapping feature.

    1. I use exiftool to add metadata (Title, Description) to my images before uploading.
    2. After uploading, I can see the IPTC data correctly in the “Attachment File Metadata” box on the Edit Media page.
    3. My mapping rules are set correctly (e.g., IPTC “Caption/Abstract” is mapped to the Alt Text field, Status is Active).
    4. However, when I click the “Map IPTC/EXIF/WP metadata” link on the Edit Media page, the Alt Text and Title fields are not filled. Nothing happens.

I have already tried clearing all caches and deactivating all other plugins. The data is visible inside WordPress, but the mapping is not working.

    Can you please help?

Thanks for your report. I have just run some tests on my system and cannot reproduce the problem you are having. My rule has the following values:

    • Name: ALT Text
    • IPTC Value: 2#120: Caption or Abstract
    • EXIF/Template Value: (blank)
    • Priority: IPTC
    • Existing Text: Keep
    • Status: Active
    • Delete NULL: No
    • Option: text

Does this match your rule? Have you tried changing Existing Text to “Replace”?

I tested the rule with the “Execute” rollover action to map all of my attachments and it made several updates. I selected an image that displayed “iptc:2#120 => IPTC Description” in the Attachment File Metadata text box and clicking “Map IPTC/EXIF/WP metadata” updated the Alternative Text value correctly.

If you can post a link to one or more of the images giving you trouble I can investigate further. You can also contact me at my web site if email would be more convenient, perhaps sending a screen shot of the “Edit Rule: Standard field mapping” screen for your rule and the “Attachment File Metadata” box on the Edit Media screen.

I will leave this topic unresolved for now and I hope to hear from you soon. Any additional information you can provide will be helpful. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

@reflective – I will be releasing an updated MLA version soon. It would be great if there’s anything I can do to resolve this issue before that happens. If you are still having this problem, any further information would be most helpful. Thanks!

@reflective – It has been a month since my last post in this topic. I assume you have fixed the problem with IPTC mapping, and I am marking this topic resolved. Please update it if the problem persists and you have additional details to share.
