Inserted In Column Not Displaying
-
In the Media Library, Media Assistant view, the column for “Inserted In” does not show anything. I made sure in Settings/Media Assistant/General, the “Where-used database access tuning” has “Inserted In” is Enabled. I even disabled it, then re-enabled it with no luck.
I wanted to delete images that were not used, but without that column information, the only way of knowing is by opening up every image.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your question. The where-used features are powerful but can be tricky to understand.
You wrote “the column for “Inserted In” does not show anything.” I assume that means you found the Screen Options pulldown menu and checked the boxes to add the column(s) to the Media/Assistant submenu table.
The Inserted In condition is quite specific. It means that the content of a post/page contains a hyperlink to a Media Library item. It will NOT detect an item used as the Featured Image or appearing in the display generated by a shortcode such as
[gallery]or[mla_gallery]. That’s what the other where-used categories are for. If you have a post or page that includes a link to an item, and it’s not showing in the Inserted In results, could you post a link to the post/page or the complete source (from the Text tab of the editor, not the Visual tab) so I can investigate further? You can find more information about the categories and what they mean in the Help pull-down menu on the Media/Assistant page. Look for the “Where-used Reporting”, “Featured/Inserted” and “Gallery/MLA Gallery” tabs on the help menu. You can also review earlier support topics such as this one:
I hope that gives you some ideas for employing the where-used information. If you have a problem or need more specific guidance, any additional details you can provide will be very useful. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.
It has been two months since my last post in this topic and I have seen nothing further. I assume you have found a solution that fits your application.
I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any questions regarding my earlier suggestions.
Hi David,
I’m having the same problem as ‘customle’above. I’m wondering if this is an issue when used with a theme that uses ‘Visual Composer’? I don’t get any display for ‘featured in’ or ‘inserted in’. The options have been chosen from within the screen options pull down at the top of the screen and in the settings they are both ‘enabled’. I’m using images in the themes own gallery not an mlc-gallery or using shortcodes. Here is the code for a page with one the themes galleries. The last line shows the ID’s for the images used but they don’t show up in the MLA as having been inserted, featured in etc.
I’m not overly technical so any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve>>>>>>>>

Steve,
Thanks for your question and for posting the full source code for one of your theme’s pages; very helpful.
As I wrote in my earlier post, “The Inserted In condition is quite specific. It means that the content of a post/page contains a hyperlink to a Media Library item.” In your example above there is only one actual hyperlink; the “headshots-wide-08.jpg” at the top of the page. The actual HTML markup for this image is:
<img width="980" height="245" alt="male and female informal portraits by headshotz photo | gallery" src="http://www.headshotzphoto.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/headshots-wide-08.jpg">The
image_idslist at the bottom of the page is specific to Visual Composer’s[vcex_image_grid]shortcode and is not processed by MLA’s Inserted In logic. I hope you understand that there are many plugins and themes that have specific value-added features like this, and I cannot afford to support all of them. You will have to find some other way to perform this analysis for your application. For example, you could write some PHP code to find and process all the[vcex_image_grid]shortcodes and store the results in a custom field. Once that’s done you can display the custom field in the Media/Assistant submenu table as a sortable column. Here is an earlier support topic along similar lines:Media Library Modal – Show Featured/Inserted In
I regret the news is not better, but I am marking this topic resolved simply because your question has been answered. Good luck with your application and thanks for your interest in MLA.
No problem David – I suspected that it was a Theme specific problem. The PHP stuff is way outside of my abilities so I will live with it for now. Thanks for taking the time respond none the less. Keep up the good work.
Cheers
Steve
