I’ve setup WordFennce Free Version on a WordPress Installation but keep getting “Wordfence installation is incomplete” When I resume the installation I get to a Wordfence.com page that says: “The data we received from your Wordfence plugin installation is invalid.”

So I tried the other way round and registered the domain on wordfence.com. There it seems the installation and connection went through and I could also start a scan from the wordfence.com dashboard….

Though in the backend of the WP site I still cannot access any of the Wordfence pages as it keeps on saying “Wordfence installation is incomplete”….

The diagnostics page, which seems to be the only one I can access on the WP backend without the incomplete overlay the Connectivity to Wordfence servers and back is OK, though IPv6 says: “wp_remote_post() test back to this server failed! Response was: cURL error 7:”

May that be the issue?

Hi @mediamarx, thanks for your detailed message.

cURL Error 7 often means that the website can’t make the connection to our servers at all. This could mean that your host has a local DNS server that’s caching a long-expired noc1 server IP, and is most likely the reason why you’re experiencing other problems.

If you have a shell on the server (or the host are willing to check for you), you could try running curl -v https://noc1.wordfence.com/ and send us the output here. It’s not a perfect test since it’s not within PHP, but it may show if the server’s resolver is getting the wrong IP.

Failing that, or if you’re unable to get a connection, you mention having access to the Wordfence > Tools menu to send us a diagnostic report. You can send that to us at wftest @ wordfence . com. Click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

@wfpeter This is still not resolved. I’ve sent a report but haven’t gotten any feedback.

I have deleted the Plugin (with all data / tables in WP) and removed the (manually registered) site from the Dashboard on WF. Then tried to set it up again. Still I can not finish the installation as I cannot request a free licence…

I always get “The data we received from your Wordfence plugin installation is invalid. Please contact Wordfence support.” and a 400 status.

–> I found several threads here on the same issue (like https://wordpress.org/support/topic/the-data-we-received-from-your-wordfence-plugin-installation-is-invalid-2/ ) which mostly have the WP_HOME or WP_SITEURL as a problem… But these are fine (https: and correct subdomain…..)
