Importing various Posts

Hi Guys,

We need to split an XML file into two different post types depending on a certain value for the posts in the XML file. For example if a file includes
<department>Residential Sales</department>: = imports to Sales custom post types.
<department>Residential Lettings</department> = imports to Lettings custom post types.

I have the Post types set up and the templates but cant figure how to divide the import

Is it possible?
