BP Docs allows you to upload files that WP allows, so if you tell WP that Illustrator files are allowed, BP Docs will follow suit. There are several ways to allow various file types:
Add a filter: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-add-additional-file-types-to-be-uploaded-in-wordpress/
Use a plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-extra-file-types/

Npte that I’ve not used the specific plugin I linked, so do read the reviews and such before using it.
