Dan’s Embedder for Google Calendar also connects directly. I just switched to it so I haven’t found out whether it has the same problem as Simple Calendar (not passing a referrer) or not yet.
Well…it haven’t been updated also 🙁 it’s a shame…i’ll have to look for other options instead of using google calendar like the events calendar 🙁

Works a treat and frequently updated by developers.
Was a shame to leave Simple Calendar but it sadly is not fully stable with WordPress 5 upwards!
