How can we manually insert [ez-toc] shortcode into our posts? I tried to do so but in the settings, we must choose one of the few places where we want the TOC to appear.

Maybe I am not understanding the question, but to insert the [ez-toc] shortcode in your posts, you type [ez-toc] in the post.

@shazahm1hotmailcom what’s the difference between [ez-toc] and [toc]?
    Which is better to enter?

Steven, thanks for your quick reply. No, I couldn’t just type [ez-toc] into the post. Because in the settings, I must choose where I want the TOC is placed and this setting overrides where I manually type into the post. Sorry I didn’t explain well before. I hope you understand my problem now. Btw, the problem is still not resolved.

@sunflowerhk It is actually the other way, the shortcode overrides the settings.

@ricsca2 There is no difference in the shortcode. They both run the same code that inserts the TOC.

I must mention that although the shortcodes work, they are not supported. They are a legacy feature. For manual placement, an Editor Block will be introduced.

@shazahm1hotmailcom – Please allow me to add a “me too” to this. I am willing to donate. I use the classic editor (cleaner HTML) and would like to place a [toc] slightly lower in the page — a few paragraphs below my first couple of headings.

Right now the options are too inflexible and a shortcode’s placement should have precedence over the default. There are many cases when I want to manually create a table of contents below some of the introductory headings on large posts.

    Thanks!

You can use the shortcode. I will not be removing support for it; I just do not support it. I hope this helps!
