    Hi guys,

I needed to do some really basic cropping on a couple of my images, but when I clicked onto the ‘edit’ button, there was no longer any option to do basic editing.

Switching over to the ‘grid’ version in the Media Library seemed to solve it, but it said that I couldn’t edit the image as ShortPixel had already optimised it.

Question is then – how do I stop Shortpixel from optimising images until I’m sure that they’re correctly cropped?

  • Hi deeveearr,

I’m not sure I understood the issue here; from my side I can edit any image with the WordPress editor even if it’s already optimized. Could you maybe send us some screenshots so we see what you (expect to) see?

In any case, in order to stop ShortPixel from optimizing images automatically, you just need to disable the “Optimize media on upload” option in ShortPixel’s settings. That will stop any image from being automatically optimized.

    Hi @sixaxis

Ok, so the list view looks like THIS

With the Grid View Looking like THIS

And the instuctions for WordPress editing in Grid View coming after you click onto the ‘Edit Image’ link, like THIS

    (all open in new windows)

The only way I’ve found to disable ‘Images Optimised on Upload’ is to go into the admin panel and click on ‘FIX’, when the option finally appears.

Hardly intuitive and the admin panel needs a good sorting out.

    Hey @sixaxis

I clicked onto ‘Fix ‘Now’ to activate ‘background optimisation’ or something and everything including the option to ‘Disable Optimisation on Upload’ has disappeared.

Where has this option gone to?

Or do I now need an image editor to do basic cropping?

I found the ‘Disable Optimised Media’ Option under ‘Advanced Settings’ so following this mornings update, I turned this option off.

The screenshots would be exactly the same as in the third post, with the ‘Edit Image’ button still behaving (not working) as in that post.

So ‘Disable Optimised Media’ doesn’t work either – looks like I’m going to need Photoshop to do my basic cropping as ShortPixel cannot do it.

    Hi deeveearr,

I’ve consulted this with our team, and I can confirm that ShortPixel does not remove the Edit Image button from the Media Library. Most probably this is some other plugin affecting it. I recommend you doing the following:

    1. Deactivate every single plugin except ShortPixel
    2. Activate them one by one until you find the plugin that removes the Edit Image button.

In addition, just to be on the same page, ShortPixel cannot crop an image. The editor you are talking about is the native WordPress photo editor, and even though you see a notification from ShortPixel, it shouldn’t prevent you from editing the photo 🙂

    Cheers!

    Hi @sixaxis

I re-wound my install by a couple of weeks, and everything works fine now!

    Good to hear, deeveearr!
