Functional Links in exerpt?

Is there a way to make simple links (e.g., ) work in exerpts?

I’m trying to omit using the MORE tag and rather let WordPress cut off longer posts by using the exerpt but so far, every exerpt displayed text only and does not seem to generate the links.
