Glad to help. The free version comes close but is limited to image files (e.g., JPG and PNG). The pro version can do it but the forums here at WordPress.org prohibit any discussion of pro/premium plugins. For any questions about USP Pro, reach us anytime via our contact form and we’ll respond asap, thank you.

Jeff, thanks for the quick reply – that sounds very promising, particularly as my site makes no money. And I really need to process the bands’ video files separately anyway (as I’ll need to physically upload them to our Vimeo account to host them). So they needn’t be part of the harvest I guess – they could send them to me separately as a downloadable link address – maybe even somewhere in the same form?
Regardless of the video solution, do you foresee any other issues? Will a submitted front-end post essentially look identical to our own post layouts with your free version? And if so, does the user get auto-added as a ‘user’ (i.e. a user account?), so they are able to edit / update their post if they need to once it’s created?
Many Thanks,
Stu

- “..maybe even somewhere in the same form?”
You can either follow the steps to set up a custom form, where you could add a link/markup. Or on the page where you display the form, you could add a link either before or after the form shortcode.
2. “Regardless of the video solution, do you foresee any other issues?”
The best way to find out is to install the free version and give it a try. There are a million variables for any given website, so it’s impossible to predict ahead of time. Worst case scenario the plugin isn’t a good fit and you remove/delete it.
3. “Will a submitted front-end post essentially look identical to our own post layouts with your free version?”
With WordPress, plugins provide functionality (like submit posts), and themes display content as desired. That’s the whole purpose of themes. So really it’s up to your theme to display submitted content as needed. The plugin doesn’t try to anticipate the layout/design of a million different themes, but rather makes no assumptions and just submits posts like any other/regular post. Again give it a spin is the best way to find out for any given site/setup.
4. “does the user get auto-added as a ‘user’ (i.e. a user account?), so they are able to edit / update their post if they need to once it’s created?”
The free version of the plugin does not add or create any users. If the user is “read” capability, they will be able to submit but not edit. If the user is “editor” capability, they will be able to edit and so forth, all depending on the user’s existing capabilities. Note that it is not recommended to assign random/untrusted users with any role greater than subscriber (read permissions). Just for the sake of security.
I hope this helps, let me know if I can provide any further information.

Thanks Jeff! Last question:
to attempt to have submissions stylised to look like my other posts, can you give me a hint where I’d pull that functionality from – would it be a webhooks thing? Does that come from WordPress? Or does a plug-in need to be able to do it? Or is it pulling from a post template somehow?
Sorry mate – as you can probably tell, I’m pretty lame with all this stuff. On that note – if I give it a go, but even a simple setup is beyond me, am I able to get you to knock it up and pay you for it? I know being familiar with your own product, you’d probably only take an hour. Please let me know if that’s a possibility etc.
Best, Stu

As explained in my previous comment, it is the theme’s responsibility to display all content as desired. That includes posts, submitted posts, and everything else. Plugins provide functionality. Themes display content. Ask your theme provider will be able to explain more specifically how their theme is displaying content on the front end.
2. “to have submissions stylised to look like my other posts”
Posts submitted via USP are handled just like regular posts, so that means they are displayed along with regular posts on the front end, and will look exactly like all of your other posts. Unless of course your theme is designed to display certain types of posts differently, etc. In which case best advice is to consult with your theme provider for more details.
3. “if I give it a go, but even a simple setup is beyond me, am I able to get you to knock it up and pay you for it?”
I am glad to answer any questions, but currently not available for paid work. Again your theme provider should be more than happy to help you get set up. And they are free to ask any questions here about the plugin, there are all sorts of ways to tap into its functionality via themes and other plugins.
