We’re unfortunately experiencing an extreme performance drop after the latest updates. The site became significantly slower, to the point where our users could no longer use the platform properly.

Because of this, we had to deactivate Rank Math to restore usability. We also noticed a decline in visits and overall engagement after the update, which strongly suggests the slowdown impacted user behavior.

We’re using Rank Math Pro as well, and we will of course open a ticket with the dev team including full details (versions, environment, and any performance logs). Still, we wanted to report this here too in case others are affected and to help prioritize investigation.

  • I also had a massive decline in page load speed (from 2 secs to 30-40 secs)!

My site uses the 2014 WordPress theme (which was updated in the past week).

I only have 6 total plugins (and 3 of them including Rankmath were updated in the past week).

I de-activated all plugins except for Rankmath. But it still did not solve the issue.

I am reluctant to de-activate Rankmath, since it is the most important plugin for my site. I have no idea how much I will lose by disabling Rankmath.

I also tried changing my theme temporarily, but it did not resolve the page load speed issue.

Deactivating Rank Math helped us for now and brought performance back to a usable level.

We’re on the paid (Pro) version and we’re very used to Rank Math, so we’d prefer to keep it and wait for the team to identify and fix what’s causing this regression rather than switch permanently.

Also, it really looks like performance drop is one of the main topic since upgrading to WP 6.9 — we’re definitely not alone here.

I de-activated Rankmath and it did not solve the issue.

Then I saw the following advice on another site (when exploring an unrelated issue):

“The solution for us was to change the PHP version and delete the cache. We were using version 8.2, we downgraded it to 8.0 and cleared the cache. Then we upgraded to 8.2 again and after clearing the cache it was completely fixed.”

I messed around with the above and my site speed seems to be very fast on 8.1 (and possibly just a bit slower on 8.2). I have only been at it for 5 mins, so who knows if this will be permanent. I had upgraded to 8.4 just a week ago, and going down to 8.3 did not resolve the issue.

The PHP version downgrade change speed increase did not last FYI.

    Hello @androgenicalopecia,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.

Since deactivating Rank Math didn’t fix the issue, it must be related to something else. You can try disabling other plugins one by one to figure out which plugin is causing the issue with your site’s performance.

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.
