Error on Export Tool

    Hi Folks,

    I occasionally use the Export tool, but when I tried to a Export some posts today, I got the following Server Error Message. I have no idea when this situation started.

    AH01071: Got error 'PHP message: PHP Fatal error: Uncaught TypeError: wp_is_valid_utf8(): Argument #1 ($bytes) must be of type string, null given, called in /-site-/wp-admin/includes/export.php on line 246 and defined in /-site-/wp-includes/utf8.php:39\nStack trace:\n#0 /-/wp-admin/includes/export.php(246): wp_is_valid_utf8()\n#1 /-site-/wp-admin/includes/export.php(682): wxr_cdata()\n#2 /-site-/wp-admin/export.php(123): export_wp()\n#3 {main}\n thrown in /-site-/wp-includes/utf8.php on line 39', referer: -site-/wp-admin/export.php

    I tested it again using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, in Troubleshooting Mode, with no theme or plugins activated and manged to export only one page before it quit with the additional information:

    FYI, I am running:
    WP Version: 6.9
    Operating System: Linux
    PHP Version: 8.3.29
    MySQL Version: 10.6.24
    jQuery Version: 3.7.1
    Server Software: Apache/2
    Local Memory Limit: 2048M
    Server Memory Limit: 128M
    Post Max Size: 64M
    Upload Max Filesize: 64M
    Time Limit: 30
    Max Input Vars: 1000

    This is a known bug in the current WordPress 6.9 and only affects projects that use special characters in their texts that are to be exported using the export tool. The developers have a ticket for this here: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/64347

    As far as I can see in this ticket, this should be corrected in WordPress 6.9.1. There is no release date for 6.9.1 yet.

    You therefore have two options:

    • Wait until 6.9.1 is released.
    • Downgrade to 6.8.x.

    Thanks indeed for the quick and informative reply. Greatly appreciated!!

    I only need to copy 34 posts, and the deadline is not yet, so I shall wait patiently for 6.9.1 release, else if needed before then, I’ll just copy them manually onto a .txt file, as each needs a deletion edit anyway 🙂 Or I may copy and past into MSWord, as they are basically simple text only posts, and that will word fine too.
