• Hi again :}

    While working on my Typepad import I’ve run into a small glitch: duplicate image names.

    I have configured Smart Auto Image Upload to use the alt text as the image name, which give me much better file names than Typepad’s horrible 20-digit long hexadecimal names.

    However, since it is a nature/birding blog, some images have the same alt text for different images. For example, image 1 has the alt text “yellow bird” and image 2 also has the alt text “yellow bird”

    When processing the URL for image 2, I see that Smart Auto Image Upload logs an error “Duplicate Image”, which is understandable, as this filename exists. Since it isn’t the same file though, I’d rather see it automatically renamed (in the WordPress style “yellow-bird_1.jpg”) than not being downloaded.

    Maybe a configuration option for this would be ideal: “Download potential duplicates and rename them? Yes/No”

    Cheers,
    Alex

    PS: your plugin has, despite the small problems, been a life saver in the Typepad migration! Thank you.

    Hi Alex,

    The plugin appends a number if the image name already exists because of another image. I have tested it, and it appears to be working as expected. Could you please share the HTML markup so I can attempt to recreate the issue?

    Hello Burhan,

    It is very good to know that the plugin already does this, thank you!

    What I noticed was that occasionally, images were successfully downloaded but not “attached” to the post, ending up as orphans in the Media Library. The image URL in the post was not updated in that case. I deleted the orphans and tried again, then it worked. Maybe that could be related to the duplicates?

    I cannot pinpoint it to a single HTML markup. It was in a Typepad export file with ~3900 posts that have ~5800 images linked. I was working in batches of 5-20 posts to not overload the Typepad servers (they’ve been very flaky). If you’d like, I could make the entire export file available to you, but I’d rather not link it publicly here of course. I will send you a message through the contact form on your website.

    Thanks much,

    Alex.
