Dubious spammy plugin

    I only wanted to try the editor that this plugin’s website so gloriously celebrates. But I didn’t even get there: The plugin didn’t just do the job it promised, it installed three other plugins to do it. Can you believe it? This made me uninstall the plugin as soon as I saw it (and the other three, too, obviously).

    Today, two weeks later, I noticed that it also installed an MU plugin which I just had to manually delete via FTP. Was that it? No, one of the plugins also created a new page on all of my multisite websites. I’m currently going through my dashboard and looking for more unwanted surprises.

    Hi, thanks for your feedback.

    The MU plugin is used by all our plugins for particular features, it won’t damage anything and have 0 impact over your website.

    As mentioned in the plugin description, all the editor with all features are free and require nothing else than a plugin install:

    WP Smart Editor is totally free of charge, the only thing you can purchase is an upgrade of WP File Download (the enhanced version of the file manager) and WP Table Manager (the enhanced version of the table manager).

    The other plugins installed with the editor are the file manager and the table manager. If you don’t those features you can remove them of course. I don’t think the plugin can be considered as “spammy” or [ redacted ]

    I’d suggest changing the plugin’s description. It says “the plugin comes with […] – a table manager – a file manager” – well, it doesn’t, it just installs your other plugins that do those things. The plugin also doesn’t tell me that it will install those other things, it asks “which features” you want to have, but doesn’t say a word about those features being standalone plugins. And it also doesn’t say anything about dropping an MU plugin into my WordPress without removing it after uninstalling the plugin. Or creating new pages on my websites.

    Sorry, this got me really mad yesterday.

    No problems 🙂 got it. We haven’t put all the technical informations in the plugin description as we like to keep the things simple at first look.

    We’ll add that in the plugin install description.

    @joomunited Your plugin installs additional plugins? From where? This is a very important question.

    The mu-plugin is a bunch of classes used by our plugins.

    The two other plugins installed are already packaged in the plugin : Ref to WP Smart Editor code on WordPress svn
    The plugins are both features that are integrated and used in our editor.

    Don’t worry we do not add anything else than the what’s available from the WP Repository of WP Smart Editor.
