Domain mapping for wordpress network

I recently converted my wordpress site https://southvalleyspeech.com to a multisite network site and created a new website in the network, https://southvalleyspeech.com/aprilyoungb/
I want the domain of the new site to be https://aprilyoungb.com/ instead but when I go to Network admin wordpress dashboard/sites and edit the site URL the new site disappears and I get a 404 error instead.
I assume this means my new domain is not mapped properly? My domains are at ipage, southvalleyspeech.com is given as the primary site and aprilyoungb.com as a secondary suite, SSL is enabled for both, the pointer for aprilyoungb.com is set to parked, DNS and Nameservers are the defaults. What do I need to fix?

Your server needs to know the new domain name to listen for. That’s the problem that gets me almost everytime. I forget to set the domain or addon domain in the control panel. A couple of my sites don’t need that. The rest do.
Your domain also needs to point to the server with DNS.
When you map the domain via site settings from the Network Dashboard go back and look to ensure they actually ‘took’.
Also, give DNS time to propagate.
