Is this supposed to work with self hosted website?

It isn’t working at all.

So, just to clarify, when WordPress sends an email, it is sent with the [email protected] address instead of the admin email address in Settings > General?

It was sent with *****@hostingcompany.com

I used Mandrill to get the solution I was looking for. Thanks for your time.

This would be an issue with your hosting company. Neither WordPress nor this plugin can fix this.
