I added a custom role via the User Role Editor Plugin and the bio editor does not show up. What gives?

Make sure your custom role has the edit_posts capability set. If that role can’t edit posts, then it can’t use the visual editor on the profile page.

A planned future release will allow you to customize the capabilities / roles that allow the visual profile editor.
