Does logging into the WP admin trigger WP updates?

    I logged into the WP admin for a site, clicked on Posts, and the site went down. It came back up again without doing anything. I edited some posts (nothing crazy) and then it went down again with a 503 error.

    I am not sure, but I don’t think the site had been updated to 5.5 when I logged in. Does logging in trigger the WP update?

    Another question…I noticed that some of my sites automatically updated to 5.5 while others did not. What determines whether WP automatically updates on a site or not?
