• Hello,

I’m in the process of having a new website built and am in desperate need of advice from some web developers and wordpress experts. I sell personalized products and want an online design tool to allow customers to design their own products online. In our agreement, my web designers agreed to “create a custom design tool which allows users to create a new design.” My web designers purchased a pre-made $40 wordpress tool instead of creating a new custom design tool. I feel that the tool is not as user friendly or flexible as it needs to be and they are saying that they cannot make the modifications that I feel are absolutely necessary. Am in incorrect in assuming that when they said they would “create” a “custom design tool” that they would not purchase a plugin — they would make one from scratch? Can you say that you are creating a tool and then purchase a pre-made tool? They said they modified the tool to make it function better, but I don’t see very much difference at all between the demo version of the tool and the tool they have installed on my site.

Any feedback, opinions, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a bunch!

  • This is all written in a legal contract, isn’t it?? If not, then you’re pretty much going to be out of luck trying to make them do anything more.

Depending on how far you want to go with this, you should think about seeing a lawyer.

As a personal viewpoint, from what they said they should have built something. BUT that’s not a legal standpoint, and when they said “create” it could mean to them “provide” or something similar. How much did they actually quote/charge you for creating that area? That would be the biggest giveaway there. If it’s that $40 then that’s what they’ve thought of. if it’s more, then they’ve done it the wrong way.

If you’re going to try and persue this into more than just asking them to do it the way that you want, you’ll need real leagal advice, not anything that someone on the internet tells you.
