Critical Error on Website
-
I get this message when I try to access my website, as well as when I try to contact my Dashboard. Since I cannot access anything to look for problems, or update Plug-ins, I am lost! What should I do?

Yeah I’m in the same boat here. I’ve restored my site to a previous backup but it’s still down.
Looking forward to a response from the WordPress team or anyone else with some critical advise.
Thanks. You are not alone. I’m awaiting word from our WordPress specialist on what we can do to restore.
Are you with WpEngine?
Mine is down too. Heaps of us. There’s a Reddit too.
@ausworkshop I believe it is WP Engine related.
I am with WP Engine. Checkout this https://wpenginestatus.com/incidents/685394Yes. I got an email about that. Hours ago. Some on Reddit are saying to ‘Just rename the wpe-update-source-selector.php to wpe-update-source-selector.php– and you’ll be fine’
But I can’t even remember how to use FTP and don’t want to go messing with stuff I know nothing about. They broke it, they should fix it ASAP!
Thanks, guys. I feel a bit better now that a generic problem has been recognized, and updates are being rolled back..
I’ve just gotten a similar error on https://ncvoad.org, and dug a little further. I can’t get into the site but I got a “dying gasp” message from the site which states:
First, visit your website (https://www.ncvoad.org/) and check for any visible issues. Next, visit the page where the error was caught (https://www.ncvoad.org/wp-admin/network/about.php) and check for any visible issues.
Please contact your host for assistance with investigating this issue further.
If your site appears broken and you can’t access your dashboard normally, WordPress now has a special “recovery mode”. This lets you safely login to your dashboard and investigate further.
That same diagnostic message also included this section which seems to implicate Jetpack.
When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
WordPress version 6.8
Active theme: Elevation Web (version 3.8)
Current plugin: Jetpack (version 14.5)
PHP version 7.4.33.10Error Details
=============
An error of type E_COMPILE_ERROR was caused in line 102 of the file /nas/content/live/voadnc/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/vendor/jetpack-autoloader/class-php-autoloader.php. Error message: require(): Failed opening required ‘/nas/content/live/voadnc/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/vendor/automattic/jetpack-autoloader/src/class-autoloader.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/pear/php:/usr/share/php’)EDIT: YES, our site is also hosted by WP-Engine. They probably have done something that is incompatible with the latest Jetpack release. I wonder why they didn’t test their code with WordPress 6.8 before inflicting it on their unsuspecting users.

lmarks. Reason: Update-learned that it is relevant that our site, like all the others, is hosted by WP-Engine
Mine is fixed now. Goodluck to everyone, hopefully they have fixed them all.

My sites are now up and running again.
Maybe check your websites again.Yes, I am up and running again. More helpful messages and advice from WordPress when this happens would be useful!
Not WordPress. This is all on WP-Engine. Something they did is apparently incompatible with Jetpack from Annatto, which is provided by WordPress.
