• I’m giving the plugin 4 stars as it is very flexible and I’ve been able to do some crazy stuff with it in the past. However, I fear for it’s future due to the continued desire of the developers to cram as much block/React junk into it as possible. The plugin is just a mess right now as a result. Differing interfaces, inconsistent functionality, etc.

Just look at the product editor. They can’t figure it out and scrapped the new one for now. It still uses the classic editor which is a completely different interface than the one that WordPress is pushing on us. So clients get one editor for posts/pages, and a completely different one for products. Consistency would be nice.

They really want us to use cart and checkout blocks. They are a PITA to style and require different code to customize that is not near as straight forward and easy to implement. They even make these the default for new installations, even if you have the block editor disabled. I have Gutenberg completely disabled and yet on every new install block HTML is on my cart and checkout pages which I then have to edit in the code editor to remove. And if you use the checkout block, you will actually need to use the legacy PHP template for the order received and order pay template.

And while we have cart/checkout blocks, we don’t have an account page one. Why? Again, consistency is missing. They force blocks by default for cart and checkout, but still use shortcodes for another important portion of the site. Makes no sense.

I really wish there was just a switch to disable all block functionality or have a separate “Classic WooCommerce” plugin or something like that. Make WooCommerce great again!
