    Hi Everyone,

I’ve recently taken over an administration job which involves a wordpress site. I have no background in coding or IT and this is causing me loads of problems- hopefully you lovely people might be able to help.

My problem at the moment is backing the site up. It hasn’t been backed up since May 2016.

When I click on the “backup” tab, I see a message which says “Your server does not support command line ZIP. Backups will be performed in compatibility mode.Directory/file exclusion is not available in this mode so even existing backups will be backed up. You may encounter stalled or significantly delayed backups. Click for instructions on how to resolve this issue.”

I clicked on the link, but it may as well be in Greek. I don’t know what command line ZIP is, I don’t even know which server the site runs on or how to find this out (I did google but it wasn’t very helpful.) There was a link to install “Windows zip.exe executable”, which I did, but this has made no difference (at least no difference visible to me).

I then tried to ignore all this and just try to run a backup anyway, but I get a popup message which says “A fatal error has been encountered. The backup has halted.”

Any help deciphering all this would be greatly appreciated.

  • My suggestion is to install a backup plugin called updraft. After installing and completing a backup download the back of files to your computer. The backup files come in sections. You will have a backup copy on your server and the one on your computer. Do you know how to search an install plug-ins?

Thank you @eze008, I think this worked!

Should I get rid of “Backup Buddy” now or does it not matter to have two backup plugins?

Also, if I have other unrelated questions, is it best to ask in this thread or start a new one?

Good. Glad it worked for you. would keep backup buddy for now. Just deactivate the plugin. As far as I know you can ask anything and the support area about WordPress

My suggestion is stick to one you like and works for you.

For a new question, please start a new thread.

I agree with TP. But for now since you just got the position let the company know before you delete anything. Just my suggestion.

I know this ticket is over two months old (and resolved), but if anyone else comes across this thread and gets that message from BackupBuddy, it means they are using a very, very old version of BackupBuddy and that they’ll need to update BackupBuddy to the latest version.
