I have enabled breadcrumbs but Google Search Console reports a lot of pages with breadcrumb errors.
    Every error is about:
    – missing ‘position’ field
    – ‘name’ or ‘item.name’ not specified

I have no idea what I could do to fix this; I suppose it’s something that should be automatically generated by TSF?
Because what is the ‘enable breadcrumbs’ checkbox doing otherwise?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello, I apologize for late response, my colleague is moving homes, and it is a making our support a bit slower than usual. I hope you understand.

Looking at your website, it looks like only pages with products are affected, and I suspect the theme/woocommerce might be the culprit. The pages with just TSF markup look fine to me. Please try these things:

    0. Backup your website. On top of that, I recommend doing these steps in the staging environment.
    1. Disable caching plugins.
    2. Switch to default WooCommerce theme, Storefront. Pick any of the previously broken URLs, and test it for errors using https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool

My next suspect would be WooCommerce and any potential WooCommerce extensions or modifications you might have installed.

Let me know how that went, and we can move from there.
    Cheers, Pierre.

Oké, when changed to the storefront theme there are no errors anymore.
Should I alert the theme developer then?

The theme developers (Trusted theme by UXL themes) tells me:

The Storefront theme probably has it’s own breadcrumb functionality that is replacing the standard WooCommerce breadcrumbs.

The Trusted theme does not have any breadcrumbs or breadcrumb functionality, so the shop breadcrumbs are those provided by the WooCommerce plugin.

It cannot be an issue with the Trusted theme as the theme does not in any way alter or change the breadcrumbs provided by the WooCommerce plugin.

so isn’t there something wrong with the Jain-ld BreadcrumbList structured data that TSF is inserting?

This implies the problem might be in theme.

You can always try disabling TSF while leaving everything else on and see if the problem persists. You need to narrow down the problem, maybe even disable plugins one by one, always test with https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool to be 100% sure.

TSF disables its structured data output on WooCommerce pages, for we know WooCommerce is amazing at this. So, this cannot be a TSF issue.

The issue you’re experiencing is from WooCommerce itself because it doesn’t present all the data Google’s looking for, but that data is optional. You can ignore yellow warnings from Google at all times; only red warnings require attention.
