Glad you like it! This works the same as in classic themes, on the surface level: You create a page called “News” (or whatever you want), publish it, go to Settings → Reading and select that page as the “Page for posts”.
Once you’ve done so, you can go to Appearance → Editor → Templates → Index to edit the layout of the news page.

I’ve created a page called Words and set it as the blog page, but when I view the page it’s a replica of the homepage layout (even though I’ve customised the layout via Appearance → Editor → Templates → Index).

Yes I agree with you Simon.
I’ve been working with WordPress for years but can’t quite manage what should be a simple task.
I have follwed Andrers instructions but it is not picking up the news theme for the news page.
