I’ve actually tried two of those and while they reduced other spam I still get tons of spam comments with foreign characters. There’s not really any reason why someone should be posting comments with foreign characters on my blog so it seems like the best solution would be to disallow such content, if possible.
Thanks for the links though, I might just try out a different plugin.

I’m getting close to 100 spam comments a day from Russian spam bots. They all link to different sites, have dynamic IPs, and use different spam words. I tried blocking all of the Russian characters but they’ve learned to use other foreign characters to link to Russian sites.
Is there a way to disable all foreign characters, or automatically mark all comments containing them as spam? The Russians have made my blog virtually unusable. My regular readers have become so frustrated that they just stopped leaving comments altogether.
