    Hello,

My website (WhenWeWerentLooking.com) went down and I tried to restore a backup from March 30 and April 1, 2023, when I knew I had a clean well-working site. However, when I downloaded and unzipped the folders from my Google Drive Updraft Plus backups, they were incomplete! I only have the following folders: Jetpack-waf, mu-plugins, plugins, themes, uploads. Now I am stuck having to go back to a very old backup and rebuild many items on my website!

What happened to the other folders? Why do I have an incomplete backup? Was there something I inadvertently checked in my backup settings? My site is still down, so I can’t even check to see what the settings are… Thanks for your insights.

    Hi,

Please could you send us a copy of the latest full backup log?

This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.

The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Regards,

    Bryle

As my site is down, I don’t have access to the WP Dashboard with Updraft plugin. Please find the complete backup from April 1 here:

    Hi @whenwewerentlooking

Please remove the link above ASAP. It is not good to share your backup here.

You can obtain a copy of the restoration by downloading it using FTP/cPanel File Manager.

If you need urgent help to restore your site, you can purchase a hands-on support package.

    Thanks,
    Bryle

Hello, I wish to know the answer to my original question: Why is this an incomplete backup, and where are all of my other files? Thank you!

    Hi @whenwewerentlooking

I still need the backup log to be able to find out the cause.
Please download the log and share it here. Not the backup files please.

    Thanks,
    Bryle

I do not understand what that is nor where to find it. Can you be more specific? Remember, my website is down including the Dashboard…

@whenwewerentlooking – did you manage to find your backup log?

No, I did not. I am going to close this request, as I changed my hosting platform (from Bluehost to Hostinger, since Bluehost kept getting malware) and went back to WPVivid Backup, as I did not have any problem restoring their backup when I used their backup service.

    Hello @whenwewerentlooking,

I am a part of the Bluehost support team. I see you mentioned leaving Bluehost due to frequently getting malware on your WordPress website. I certainly understand how frustrating dealing with malware is and would like to offer some advice.

The server on which you host the website is not actually the weak spot when it comes to malware. It actually comes down to the website and what security features are in place to protect that site.

WordPress powers more than 40% of the internet. Microsoft, Salesforce, Grammarly and Zoom, to name a few, use WordPress for their websites.
Although WordPress is a secure content management system, WordPress websites receive regular security threats because of the platform’s popularity.

Malware is among the top website security threats.

You can very well move your site to another host and if you don’t take any steps to prevent the malware your site will be just as susceptible to it as it was on Bluehost servers.

There is good news, however. There a several ways to protect your site against malware.

You can use certain security plugins. Bluehost recommends Wordfence, Securi, and iThemes Security.

Here is a link with a lot more information on how to prevent and remove malware:

    https://www.bluehost.com/blog/bluehost-security-how-to-prevent-malware-attacks-on-your-wordpress-website/

Bluehost also partners with a security company called Sitelock. If you contact our support, they can connect you with a Sitelock representative that will explain all the different options they offer. They can even help remove the malware from your infected site so you don’t lose all the work you’ve put into it.

You can learn more about them here:

    https://www.bluehost.com/help/article/order-sitelock

I hope you are able to save your site and all the work you’ve done. While our support team cannot remove it for you, I know they would be more than happy to assist you along the way and get you connected with a Sitelock agent who could tell you more about how they can remove the malware.

    Goodluck!
