    looks like images in AVIF format are currently not supported.

    when trying to crop such an image then I always get a white screen that only says ERROR.

    Is the format really not supported at all or is there maybe something else I’m missing here?

    Cropping with AVIF should be possible as long as your server supports it. Does WordPress initially crop the fresh uploaded avif images?
