Apparently, starting with WP 6.6 or somewhere in there, the status of autoload options changed so that it’s not just “yes/no”. This effects how queries and plugins can detect how many there are and how much storage they take.

I don’t know if DB Cleaner has been updated to detect the options with the new statuses, that is part of my question.

The other part of my question is just that DB Cleaner shows that I have 507 autoload options, but the WP Site Health checker says I have 665 autoload options. I’ve tried everything to make sure there is no cache and that it scans many times etc, but the numbers just won’t line up. That’s why I wondered if DB Cleaner is detecting them properly with the new settings. Why would the counts be so different?

    Hey @guyinpv! 👋

There’s a good chance you’re seeing fewer options in Database Cleaner because it deliberately filters out any options related to transients using this condition:

WHERE option_name NOT LIKE ‘_transient_%’ AND option_name NOT LIKE ‘_site_transient_%’

That might explain the difference compared to other tools or counts.

We’ll make sure the next update of Database Cleaner properly accounts for new values in the autoload column. Currently, it only counts yes and no, but we’ll add support for on and off as well, and treat auto as unknown. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

    Thank you!

Maybe it is transients, I don’t know. This isn’t the first time someone has complained that the Site Health report for options is higher than other tools.

For more information, this is why autoload has more options than just “yes”:

The query for autoloaded options should be:

WHERE autoload IN ('yes', 'on', 'auto-on', 'auto')

    Thanks!
