The last few releases mentioned the new Places API, and the plugin now offers a checkbox to use the old API, if created before March 1, 2025.

Is Google phasing out the old API? If so, when?

Will there be a need for any migration when this happens?

Are the setup instructions still the same for a new site and/or widget?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @galbaras,

    Thank you for your question.

Migration is not necessary because both API responses are converted into the same reviews when connected in the plugin. The checkbox for the old Places API is needed for API keys where the owner has not enabled the new API (in Google Console).

Additionally, the old Places API offers two sorting methods (recent and newest), and the plugin uses both when connecting reviews, while only the “newest” method is used when refreshing. This allows the plugin to display more reviews compared to the new API.

    Thanks!
