adding post opens template

We have just noticed that when adding or editing a post the default template is open and editable. It is also prompting for a “Featured image” which we have not seen before, and I can see no way of switching this off. WordPress version 6.4.3; theme is Twenty twenty-four. PHP recently updated to version 8.3. Has something changed in the theme to cause this? Screenshot below.

I believe the show template option is enabled, which is why the template shows when adding/editing a post.
If you want to turn this option off, head over to add/edit post and click the view icon, and uncheck the show template option. The screenshot below should help you locate it.
For the featured image issue, what error/message is displayed when you try to save the post without a featured image? On my test site, I can save a post without the need for a featured image. Could you provide more information on the featured image prompt? You could also provide a screenshot to help us see what you are experiencing.
