• Hello folks,
I recently had my site go down and I was told by my Host’s technical support that it was due to a duplication error in my database. They were unable to help past that.

To get my site up and running again, I restored a backup database which did not contain my more recent posts. As my site features topical news articles, I really would like to get it back to where it was before the site went down.

I have a backup of the latest database which I did before I did the restoration. Is there anyway that I can access that new backup file (.sql) and import the missing posts into the restored database on my site now.

  • Hi Paderb,

When you say “I have a backup of the latest database which I did before I did the restoration.” do you mean the latest database before your site went down? If you did not take a backup of your database before it went down with all the latest post I am afraid it may not be possible to get access to them. But then some hosting providers do take periodic database backups on their own hence my follow on question would be:

What hosting are you using? Can you check with them if they archive databases before deletion?
