    Hello!

First of all, thank you for this amazing plugin. On the other hand, I have a bit of issue.

When I create a new image ad and specify the new placement (for example in the article) it shows without a problem. When I categorize the ad to a specific category, there is still no problem.

The problem occurs, when I set a specific placement for specific ad category. For example I want to have ads that are in the “ads in the article” category, I want the ads in article placement to be applicable for all the ads in the “ads in the article” category. But when I select the category for the placement, the ad stop showing on the website. All the plugins are updated, also WP is updated.

Anybody encountered this issue? Is there any solution? It is quite frustrating, because every time I want to create a new ad, I also need to create a new placement and I am not able to rotate multiple ads from the category (for testing for example).

    Thank you
    David

  • Hi David,

    Thanks for reaching out.

I have problems to follow the description of your issue, especially the following sentence is not clear for me: “I want the ads in article placement to be applicable for all the ads in the “ads in the article” category. ”

I understood that you have an ad unit and when adding a category condition to target it only to posts belonging to a certain category, e.g., “News”, this works. But if you add the same condition to the placement instead of the ad unit and assign the ad to the placement, it doesn’t show up. Is this correct?

    Best regards,

    Hi Joachim,

    thanks for your quick response.

Basically I want to have lets say ad1, ad2, ad3 to be in the same category because I want them to have the same placement (in the article below the first paragraph lets say).

So I created the category and applied this category to those 3 ads, now they are in the same category.

Now I need to assign this created category to the placement, right? So I created a placement, which should appear in the content and assigned it the created category. But once I did this, the ads did not appear.

It seems like one ad can be added to just one placement.

    Hi David,

    Thanks for the explanation.

I am still not understanding what you mean when you report that you create categories for your ads.

Basically I want to have lets say ad1, ad2, ad3 to be in the same category because I want them to have the same placement (in the article below the first paragraph lets say).

I assume that your website has different categories, such as “Cars”, “Finances” and “News”. You now want to show these ads only in posts that belong to the News category.

To achieve this, you should create a group and add these ads there. Then assign this group to the existing placement.

To ensure that the ads will only appear in posts belonging to the News category, please, either add the display condition “Category” to each ad and, if necessary, also “Archive: Category” to ensure the same targeting on the category pages, and select “News”. Alternatively, you can also add both display conditions directly to the placement.

Here, you can find examples for the “category” and “archive: category” conditions: https://wpadvancedads.com/manual/display-conditions/#Display_Conditions_Examples.

    Hello Joachim,

Im disclosing a screenshot for better understanding: https://ibb.co/LPcHMf1

So I created the ads the 1.
Then I created the category in 2. and assigned ads to the created category
Then I created a placement and 3. and assigned to the created category

But everything set up like this, my created ads are not showing.

    Best regards
    David

    Hi David,

Thanks for the screenshot. I am still not understanding.

What does “Then I created the category in 2. and assigned ads to the created category”? Your screenshot shows the group menu. Advanced Ads does not provide creating categories, but adding the “category” display condition.

Do you mean that you add your ads to a group?

Can you please send a screenshot of your condition setup?

    Best regards,
    Joachim

    Hi David,

    Thanks for the clarification.

Unfortunately, I don’t understand your backend language, but is it possible that those ads’ visibility is “private”? If so, please change it to “public” in the Publish meta box.

I am curious if this was causing the problem.

    Best regards,
    Joachim

    Hello Joachim,

yes, it is set to private, because I did not want others to see my experiments.

Thanks for the advice, seems like it is now working. I was going mad, it is so simple to setup, that’s why did not understand what might be the issue.

I have a follow up question. If I have several ads in the ad group, will they rotate automatically? I mean if there are 2 ads and my site has 100 visitors, half of them will see ad1 and the other half ad2?

    Thanks.

    Best regards
    David

    Hi David,

Thanks for your reply and great to hear that we could resolve this issue. If you want to make ads only visible for you, I recommend adding a visitor condition like “logged-in user”.

If you have selected “random” as group mode, the ads will rotate automatically depending on the selected ad weights.

If the ad weights are identical, the distribution of the impressions of both displays approaches the statistical ideal of 50%/50% with increasing impressions. With fewer impressions, e.g., 50, minimal deviations from this ideal value can be expected.

More about ad rotations and special cases, if you use caching, can you find here.

    Best regards,
    Joachim
