I am reaching out to seek assistance regarding an issue that has recently surfaced on my website. The URL /sitemap-misc.xml has started appearing in our “Page Not Found” (404) error reports over the past week. I suspect this issue might be tied to a configuration in the W3 Total Cache plugin, but I’d appreciate your guidance in confirming and resolving this.

Could this 404 error be linked to any specific W3 Total Cache settings, such as minify, page cache, or CDN integration?

Are there recommended settings or steps I should follow to ensure sitemap functionality is unaffected by caching rules?

If this issue requires excluding /sitemap-misc.xml from caching, could you provide guidance on how to implement this properly?

      Hello @charansai1999

Thank you for reaching out and I am happy to help!

There is no reason why the W3 Total Cache would cause the sitemap URL to show 404. If the sitemap is cached, it certainly not 404
I cannot seem to replicate this and there have been no reports of this kind before, so the best thing to test this is to temporarily disable the W3 Total Cache and see if the issue persists so we can determine if the issue is related to our plugin.

If the issue continues to persist, then the problem is not realted to the W3TC, and if the issue is gone, we can then continue troubleshooting this

      Thanks!

Hello, and thanks for your response. We don’t think that W3 Total Cache is causing the 404 error. That said, we have the following strings in the “404 Exception Error List” within the advanced Browser Cache settings. But we are still seeing 404 reporting for sitemap-misc.xml , event though it’s explicitly excluded. Could there be an issue with the exception list?

      Hello @charansai1999

      Thank you for your feedback.
The mentioned setting in the Browser Cache means that If certain URLs are expected to return a 404 status for functionality purposes, you can add them to the list to avoid unintended error messages.

You stated that this is not a normal behavior and once again, pelase let me know if the problem persist if you disable the W3TC?

What is the plugin you are using for sitemap?

      Thanks!
