Not a major issue, but can cause issues if a security plugin is set to block IP addresses based on the amount of 404 requests.

When dark mode is enabled on the WordPress admin panel, I have found that going to the ‘installed plugins’ page (wp-admin/plugins.php) will cause the following: GET /images/logos/shield-free.svg HTTP/2 404

If I turn dark mode off and navigate to the same page, there is no 404 error.

This same ‘shield-free.svg’ 404 error occurs on various other admin pages too when dark mode is active (and no errors when dark mode isn’t active).

Could you please share a screenshot of the error? It would really help if you could show where you’re seeing it and how it appears on your end.

I can only see the logs with the errors so a screenshot wouldn’t help. Here is an output of the access logs when I access the ‘tools’ section with dark mode enabled though:

Thanks for your information. We are looking at this issue.

We will be back to you as soon as possible.

We didn’t find any issues while debugging from our end, and the image URL (Error Log) you’re seeing doesn’t exist on our local setup, so we’re unable to reproduce it right now.

To look into this further, could you please share a bit more information? Such as details about the security plugins you’re using, along with a screenshot or short screen-recorded video of the issue? It would also help if you could share your environment details (active theme, plugin list with versions, and WordPress version).

This will help us investigate more accurately and assist you faster.

Plugin list (all are up to date):

    • Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection
    • Classic Editor
    • Disable XML-RPC-API
    • LiteSpeed Cache
    • Pages with category and tag
    • Really Simple Security
    • Salient theme plugins (along with WPBakery) all on the latest version
    • Smush
    • Wordfence Security
    • WP Dark Mode
    • WP Mail SMTP
    • WPForms Lite
    • Yoast Duplicate Post
    • Yoast SEO

Contact Form 7 is installed but not active.

Salient v18.0.2 is the active theme. WordPress version is 6.9.

Its difficult to share a screenshot/video as it really is just the logs that show the issue- there are no visible errors on the page itself. I only noticed the issue myself because I got locked out by security settings due to the excessive 404 errors.

Thanks for the update. We tried using the same settings you shared, but we couldn’t reproduce the issue on our end.

To help us understand what’s happening, please share a few screenshots or a short screen-recorded video. That would really help us investigate this properly.

See the following video which demonstrates the issue: https://limewire.com/d/PkA95#A72b7rVteq

Admin interface loads with no errors in light mode. As soon as I change to dark mode on the admin interface, 301 and 404 errors start coming up. Then when I switch back to light mode, the errors stop again.
