403 error when used with mediafire, 500 error on other hosts

    For the last year I’ve been using powerpress in conjunction with mediafire – hosting the mp3s on mediafire and putting the hotlink URL into the powerpress editor for each post.

    This last week or so it has stopped working – every time I try to paste the mediafire direct hotlink to the mp3 file into the editor it comes up ‘403 Forbidden’. I’ve experimented using mp3s hosted on other sites external to my own and it spits out a 500 Internal Server Error.

    Bizarrely, when I use the shortcode to embed the player, it works fine. Just not when I do it through the editor. I’ve asked mediafire for help but their support is kinda crappy even for paying customers so I thought I’d ask here – has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas for solutions? I have already tried using an older version of the plugin and got the same problem, please let me know if anyone has any other ideas or suggestions.

    Please post a link to your podcast RSS feed as well as a link to the media file you’re having trouble with so we can take a closer look.

    There’s no problem with the RSS feed, and it does this with every mp3 file. I’m trying to narrow down whether it’s my webhost, mediafire or the plugin that’s causing the problem.

    The particular file I noticed the problem on was this one:
    [audio src="http://www.mediafire.com/file/sifeq63xmmv9e9t/Disinfowars18.mp3" /]

    If you could check and see if powerpress will recognise that URL on another site then it’s probably a server-side issue.

    Note: I’m no longer getting the 500 server errors when trying to attach mp3 files from other external sources.

    I had no trouble getting PowerPress to verify the media file URL on my test site. I’d say it verified in under ten seconds. Blubrry’s lead developer also tested it on his sandbox installation of WordPress/PowerPress and he said he also had no trouble getting the URL to verify, however he said it took awhile. I’d check with the company hosting your website to see if they can find anything in their logs that may be preventing the URL verification.
