  1. Visit the WordPress.com homepage.
  2. Click the “Log In” link in the upper-right corner. If you are already logged into Google, you may see an option to continue with your Google account (click the X in the top right if you want to log in with your WordPress.com account instead.)

Log in with two-step authentication

Two-step authentication is a security process that requires two methods of identification, like a password plus a code from SMS or an authenticator app. If you have enabled two-step authentication on your account, follow these steps to log in:

  1. Visit the WordPress.com homepage.
  2. Click the “Log In” link in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter your email address or username and click the Continue button.
  4. Enter your password when prompted.
  5. Next, you’ll be prompted to enter a verification code. Depending on whether you set up SMS or an authenticator app, enter the verification code from your texts or app.
  6. Click the Continue button to log in.
Prompt to enter two-step authentication code.

If you’ve lost access to your verification method, you can use a backup code to log in. If you don’t have backup codes, see our account recovery guide for additional options.

Log in with security key authentication

A security key is a small hardware device that plugs into your computer for secure login. If you have a security key configured, follow these steps to log in:

  1. Visit the WordPress.com homepage.
  2. Click the “Log In” link in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter your email address or username and click the Continue button.
  4. Enter your password when prompted.
  5. You’ll see a prompt asking whether you want to verify using your key or your authenticator app/SMS. To verify using your key, click the “Continue with security key” button.

  1. Next, you’ll see a prompt to connect your key. Plug the key into a USB port on your computer.
  2. Depending on the key type, either press the button or tap the gold disc on the key to finish logging in.
Prompt to connect security key and complete login.

Note: If you take too long to verify, the request will be canceled. Click “Continue with security key” again to restart.

Use a social login

Social logins let you access your account using Google, Apple, or GitHub instead of a password. To connect a social login to an existing account, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your profile at https://wordpress.com/me.
  2. In the left menu, click the Security option.
  3. Scroll down and click the “Social Logins” section.
  4. Click the Connect button next to Google, Apple, or GitHub to approve the connection between that service and your WordPress.com account.

Next time you log in, use the appropriate social login button on the right side of the login screen.

Buttons are shown to log in with Google, Apple, and GitHub.

Resolve login issues

Make sure you’re logging in at wordpress.com/log-in. If your site is self-hosted or uses WordPress.org, you’ll need to log in through your hosting provider. Learn the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.
