The hallmarks of Twenty Nineteen are its simple but sophisticated typography and its pared-down, open aesthetic, two things that make it a great foundation for a wide variety of websites. Use it for your minimal, typography-driven blog, or adapt it for your professional business website — it’s at home with both.

Twenty Nineteen fully supports the new WordPress Editor. You can choose any of the available blocks to create a wide range of content for your site. Here’s how we built the homepage on the demo site, block by block:

Twenty Nineteen supports a Site Logo, which works great as an avatar for a personal blog or for your business logo or icon. To modify it on your site, do the following:

  1. Open My Site → Customize and click on the Site Identity section.
  2. Click the Add logo button to open the Media Manager.
  3. Upload a new image, or select one that’s already in your Media Library.
  4. Click Set as logo and you’ll see your logo appear in the preview.
  5. Click the Publish button on top to save your changes.

Twenty Nineteen gives your featured images a bold treatment on posts and pages: the images cover the full width and height of the screen, along with a color overlay.

Custom Colors

Twenty Nineteen uses a blue accent color by default, but you can change that. To explore the color options, navigate to Customizer → Colors.

Twenty Nineteen applies a color filter to featured images using the color selected here. To disable it, deselect the «Apply a filter to featured images using the site’s primary color» checkbox. Note that when this option is disabled, the theme will still apply a dark semi-transparent overlay on the featured image on single pages to preserve the readability of text that sits on top of the image.

Widgets

Twenty Nineteen includes a widget area below the site’s content, just above the footer.

On screens wider than 1168px, these widgets are automatically displayed in two columns.

Add Social Icons

Twenty Nineteen includes a Social Icons Menu; can add links to your social media profiles, and they’ll be displayed as logos in your header.

To do this, you’ll first need to create a Social Links Menu.

Then, tell your site where to put that menu:

  1. Head to Customize → Menu.
  2. Select the Menu Locations panel.
  3. Assign the menu you’ve created to the Social Links Location.
  4. Click the Publish button on top to save your changes.

Twenty Nineteen’s Social Icons Menu includes icons for:

Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels):

  1. On a 1440px laptop screen, the main column width is up to 1032px wide with the one column layout.
  2. There is one widget area in the footer with a column width of 1032px.
  3. The recommended Featured Image size is 2000px wide by 1200px high.
