hardware

We first started playing with making hardware some time in 2018 with the original standalone Core1 version — it was usable, but there was room for improvement!

Since then there have been 3 more iterations of the standalone Core1, and then in 2020 we ventured into the world of AE modular, becoming the first 3rd-party maker in that system.

  1. µBaseLite v1.2 — base for AE Modular µModules
µBaseLite v1.2 — base for AE Modular µModules
    £25.00

Having made µModules for some years, it seems time to make our own base for them!

This is an updated version of the original with a tell-tale power LED (we know that sometimes it's difficult to get these bases connected up, so this way you can tell if there is power at least!)

The wonkystuff® µBaseLite is a minimal version of the UBASE from Tangible Waves — since none of our modules use the various bus signals available on the UBASE, we've done away with the switches and signal routing, just providing power to the attached modules.

Please Note: No µModules are included with the base…

  2. ktkt - contact microphone module for AE Modular
ktkt - contact microphone module for AE Modular
    Rating:
    100% of 100
    As low as £25.00

Sometimes you might just want to put a bit more humanity into your bleeps and bloops - and what better way than by tapping and scraping your AE modular?

ktkt is a module with a piezo sensor attached to the front panel, which can be used to pick up such scratchings and scrapings and, because of the integrated envelope follower, it can also be used to trigger envelopes (to shape or modulate other sounds) and to provide some touch sensitivity to drum triggers.

One for the more experimentally-minded players perhaps?

  3. playa — MIDI percussion voice. Micro-module for AE Modular
playa — MIDI percussion voice. Micro-module for AE Modular
    £30.00

playa is a small velocity-sensitive percussion module which plays short samples in response to MIDI notes.

The samples originate from the korg minipops drum machine used by people like Jean Michel Jarre, and contribute a nice bit of variation to the rhythmic palette of AE Modular.

PLEASE NOTE: This module requires the mb/1 module in order to function correctly - it does not directly connect to MIDI devices!

  4. kæstle ARP — clone of the Bastl Kastle ARP. Module for AE Modular
kæstle ARP — clone of the Bastl Kastle ARP. Module for AE Modular
    Rating:
    100% of 100
    £75.00

Here we have a clone of the most recent addition to the well-known Kastle series of mini-modular synths from Bastl Instruments, the melodic-generator "ARP".

In the original, the root note can be selected in ‘boot mode’ reached when powering on,  but in this version there is a boot switch (because it's a bit much to switch your whole rack off and back on).

  5. rbss/2 — Random Bit-Shift Sequencer
    rbss/2 — Random Bit-Shift Sequencer
    £45.00

A new version of our most popular module!

The random bit-shift sequencer (rbss) — is a re-imagining of the well-established Turing Machine from Eurorack. It's a semi-predictable source of randomness in a single-width AEModular module.

The three controls: rate, length and chance are now all voltage-controllable.

sd110 — Clone of the dr110 snare voice for AE Modular
    Rating:
    100% of 100
    £35.00
Modelled after the SD circuit of the dr110, with a few modifications to make it a bit more flexible… the module has three audio outputs consisting of the mixed Snare and Drum signals, along with the separate snare and drum parts for further post processing.
