Harold was born in Wolverhampton on 26 November 1894, the son of Walter or Arthur and Esther Wildsmith. In 1901, the were living at 46 Stonehouse Lane, Wolverhampton, along with Harold’s brothers George, Arthur, John, and Fred. On 2 April 1906, he was admitted to Holy Trinity with St Paul’s School, in Westminster, which he attended until 11 March 1907.
He enlisted with the King’s Royal Rifle Corps (number C/7724). He was wounded, which was reported in the Express & Star on 3 March 1917, but he appears to have recovered and survived the war. He married Beatrice J. Deakin in Tamworth in 1927, and the couple had five children – Florence M. B. (1928), Beatrice L. (1930) and Harold (1932) in Tamworth and Mary (1936) and Jennifer L. (1947) in Sutton Coldfield. Harold died in Sutton Coldfield in 1958.
