The son of John Thomas and Phoebe Louisa Hopson, John was born in Bilston in 1926. In 1939, the family were living at 9 St Chad’s Road in Bilston, along with John’s younger siblings Joan, Dorothy and Thomas. His father, John, died in 1941.

John served as a Driver with the Royal Army Service Corps (service number T/14843058). John died on 21 September 1947, and he is buried in Munster Heath War Cemetery in Germany.
