Squadron Leaders Kraken, Kasfunatu and myself (I'm Stylus, how do you do?) were all free for a Skype battle one evening, and so we decided to try our a three-player scenario (I believe it was a modified version of "Mission 12: Bounty Hunt").

We decided (hello, Kraken here) to limit our points a little, just to keep things quick and nasty. To add to this, Bounty Hunt had some special bonuses we could use, one-offs, to give a ship various short-lived abilities like 'shoot before everyone regardless'. I forget when and where they were used, later on, but they were both potent and entertaining to use. 

This is Kas reporting for duty. I'm not sure they added to the game and I know we played them wrong - which was more my fault than anything of not explaining when they should be played - we all played the same, but they weren't as tactical or reactionary as they could have been.

Two weeks since the arrival of Stylus Jnr Mk II, which means two weeks of building X-Wing lists during the 3am feeds. I finally scrape together an hour to play, and Kasfunatu kindly obliged.

Not a problem, work will negate the option to play for a couple of weeks myself, and so it was good to get one last sortie in.

A solid gaming night on Saturday night, after a profitable visit to the ice-covered Frostgrave realm, Kraken and I rose to the stars, and apparently a bit of a skewed camera angle.

It was time to fly the other faction, and so I took control of Kraken's usual favoured group.

Well, I was feeling rebellious after three consecutive Scum losses without taking a single opponent down! I'd also heard good things about Dash Rendar, and thought that given my usual diet of floating space rock, I'd use him without having to worry about where the hell I was flying.

Plans fell through for my evening, and Kraken was done with his painting for the evening, and the brood in bed, so we opted for an impromptu dog fight.

Kraken chose another Scum random list from my kit, I had another unplayed rebel list.

My list needed a little tweaking, as the gods of random chance gifted one of the Z95s the ability to use his missiles twice, but no actual missiles to fire. Maybe it wasn't super-optimised, as lists go, but one of the nice things about Xwing is that nothing seems too heavily overpowered. Most ships have a chance against most other ships, with good flying and a little luck.

True to his roots, as revealed last week, Kraken took the scum, and I rolled with the Empire.

A swift X-Wing hook-up from last week, this! Kraken vs Stylus, a 100 point match with both of us fielding rather proxied lists. Me because I wasn't physically present, Stylus because his collection hasn't caught up with his ambitions yet. (does anyone's? ever?)

X-Wing seems to me like an excellent game. There's just one thing about it, just one tiny niggle, that I can't get my head around.
