Government excise tax on spirits is poised to exceed the R100 per 750ml bottle level if Finance MinisterEnoch Godongwana applies the customary above-inflation increase in duties during next week’s BudgetSpeech.
As South Africa braces for the unveiling of the 2026 BudgetSpeech, Diageo South Africa has raised alarms over a potential increase in excise duties on spirits that could push the government tax past the significant R100 per 750ml bottle mark.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli says R100 million has been set aside to assist young people with funding to help create more job opportunities in the province ... Ntuli said the R100 million fund was already making a tangible difference on the ground.
On average, university application fees range from R100 to R300, which are once-off, non-refundable, and mandatory. On average, if a university received 100,000 applications and charged R100 per application, it would rake in R10million.
