The long-resisted vetting of the EkurhuleniMetropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers has officially begun, years after hundreds of officers were flagged for criminal records and senior leadership allegedly blocked scrutiny.
A senior official at the IndependentPolice Investigative Directorate (IPID), Thulani Magagula has revealed that an EMPD officer accused of repeatedly raping two young girls remained on active duty throughout his criminal trial.
Testifying at the Madlanga Commission on Friday, Magagula said two EMPD officers, Adrian McKenzie and Kasher Lee-Stols, along with private security official Etienne van der Walt, were implicated.
